As in, if I have 1500 miles on my turbos, would it be any different from my 120K mile turbos? Also, i seem to agree with parts of your statements, as well as Guapo's and Spee's. I would think, if a seal is new, it should be able to withstand the abscence of adequate backpressure, and the older turbo's seal had just been worn over time so much that when the backpressure was deleted, it smoked, and basically "gave in" to failing. On the other hand, i hope it's not the case that no matter what, you're screwed... I just can't imagine it being a case where you just have to get lucky. My .02
